So I finished The Talos Principle a while back, and as a whole, it wasn't a very good experience for me. W10 feels sluggish after only working on Linux, or maybe I'm a bit biased after several years : ) Thanks for the good conversation, just wanted to add my $0.Edit: Why all the downvotes? It's fast, it's been fast, and having tried my same system on Windows 10, I'll gladly take Arch 100/100 times. The fact is the 2160p monitor is running at 60 Hz and there is no way to tell except for the numbers that come up. If you had asked me to guess the average fps for the 30 second test, and bet me $10,000, I couldn't (and wouldn't!) have done it. Same laptop as linked, just several months later. Even with his low numbers, I think it was, in my opinion, bad reporting to not give the full stats, logs (they are missing from openbenchmarking, latest is the AMD run), common sense commentary, for example little things like the confidence interval for a difference between two means, to know if (1) the difference was significant and (2) noting that both outputs were above the average monitor refresh rate (especially at 2160p).

I'm not sure why Michael got such low numbers on that system for Talos. I would be disappointed, but I would understand if a company went DX12 over vulkan (at least purely from a profit standpoint, and assuming the game is released on xbox as well) Which means, that might make doing both easier in the future. But the 'hardcore gamers' on Win10/xbox one might cover most of sales anyway.Īlthough, from the sounds of things, Vulkan and DX12 are a lot closer than OpenGL and DX9/11, despite still having differences. Vulkan reaches more diverse people without the proprietary MS lockin. And if its someone in corporate making that decision, 'the gaming platform' is going to be chosen (even if win7/8+linux probably takes less overheard to port) Vulkan may have a wider audience, but if you arent going to make a mobile game (and lets be honest, most games that are hitting dx12/vulkan level of graphics probably arent going to do great on mobile platforms), it comes down the linux+win7/8 vs xbox one. Vulkan: Windows(+legacy), linux, android, switch(?) Just a cool 80% Performance increase with a setting that should be GPU bound even with OpenGL (High Resolution, Ultra Settings).

I just benchmarked Talos Principle in 1440p everything Ultra and internal Resolution set to 1440p aswell.ĬPU is Core i7 2600K 5000 Mhz (beats a modern 6700K in single threaded performance, which is important for OGL), 16 GB RAM. Hi just upgraded my graphics card, which now supports Vulkan.
